Riverhead is a hamlet and census-designated place in the Town of Riverhead in Suffolk County, New York. The community is served by the Riverhead Central School District. The Town of Riverhead was formed in 1792 when the State Legislature officially split it with the Town of Southold and assigned the name River Head in reference to the local geography.
