Bayville is a village overlooking the Long Island Sound on the North Shore in the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County. The community is served by the Bayville Public Schools. The land the community resides within was purchased from Matinecock Native Americans by an English farmer named Daniel Whitehead in 1658. During the mid-1960s Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller proposed building a bridge across the Sound, connecting Bayville to Rye, Connecticut. After a large public protest, the plan was abandoned.
