Massapequa is a hamlet and a census-designated place on the South Shore of Long Island in the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York. The community is served by the Massapequa School District. Recent research suggests that Massapequa was the name given to the land by the Native Americans who lived there. The area was later known as South Oyster Bay, until the Long Island Railroad expanded to the area and named its station Massapequa.
